Do you have to take an IRA deduction this year because you've reached age of 70.5 years? Have you also been thinking about giving a gift to the university or alumni association? If so, you may be able to make a gift DIRECTLY from your IRA to Missouri S&T or the Miner Alumni Association.

  • The IRA rollover provision permits donors age 70.5 or older to make tax-free charitable gifts, totaling up to $100,000 per year,directly from his or her IRA to Missouri S&T and the Miner Alumni Association. The provision expires Dec. 31, 2009.
  • Charitable IRA Rollover requirements:
  • You must be 70.5 years of age.
  • Tax benefits apply to direct rollovers up to $100,000 per year for tax years 2008-2009.
  • The provision expires December 31, 2009.
  • The amount must be in the form of an outright gift; gifts for charitable gift annuities or charitable trusts do not qualify.
  • Qualified charitable distributions must be direct rollovers from your IRA custodian to a charitable institution.
  • No income tax charitable deduction is permitted for qualified charitable distributions.
  • Qualified charitable distributions count against your minimum required distributions.
